Jazz prize The winner of the Jazz category will be given the opportunity to perform with the legendary Julian Joseph and his band at a top London jazz venue in 2008.
Julian Joseph has built an international reputation as a jazz virtuoso, bandleader, and composer. He has performed all over the world and appeared at all the major European festivals, also touring regularly throughout the UK. Julian works within a wide range of jazz formats. As well as performing solo he has toured extensively with his own trio and quartet, Electric Band and All Star Big Band (which was featured in a late-night televised Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in 1995 and opened the 2002 London Jazz Festival). His collaborations are varied and dynamic. Most recently, he has worked with jazz artists Joe Zawinul, Johnny Griffin, George Coleman, Eddie Daniels, Jools Holland and Bheki Mseleku, as well as singers Marta Sebastyen, Des’ree, Carmen Lundy, and Mica Paris. Julian was central to the launch of the Associated Board’s jazz syllabus (which includes some of his own compositions), and now regularly builds into his concert touring schedule time to work with local students and teachers. Julian is also the patron of the Jazz Development Trust, established in 1998.
